OKI Lab Rescue sprung from the need to pay for surgery to fix a neglected pup's seriously broken leg. We now use this fund to continue to help other Labs in MVOKI Lab Rescue who need expensive surgeries to make their lives complete. OKI Lab Rescue continues to accept tax deductible donations for special needs rescued Labradors.
To date we have supported (All have made a FULL RECOVERY ... or are on their way):

DANDY
DANDY spent 6 months in the care of MVLRC Rescue. He was hit by a car and suffered a fractured pelvis. Found to be heartworm positive, Dandy underwent 2 months of heartworm treatment. He had a long road back, but has completely recovered. One of the best patients anyone could hope to have, he never complained, though he was in a great deal of pain. Dandy received the "Happy Ending" he so richly deserved in December. His new "owner" is an 8 year old young lady with a lot of spunk, who has big plans for their future, including obedience training in 4H,and sharing him with nursing home patients. Dandy is dearly loved by every member of his new family, including a 3 year old who proclaims Dandy "Simply Scrumptious"... and, he is !
Taffy Lynn
Hello Children -
My name is Taffy Lynn and I am a five-year old Labrador retriever. Unfortunately, I do not know where I was born as I was abandoned as a puppy. As an abandoned puppy, I spent my early puppy hood in an animal shelter where it was sometimes cold and very lonely. Fortunately for me, my master Shirley rescued me and me into her home. After arriving at my new home, I started an intense three-month training program to become a service dog. As a trined service dog, I accompany my master into restaurants, airplanes, and stores. I offer companionship and protection along with balance and direction when my master falls, stumbles, or needs help hetting up. While I was trained to be a service dog, I also serve as a therapy dog. From time to time, I visit hospitals and rest homes to provide companionship to the elderly. Because I am in the public a lot, I require frequent baths, teeth brushing and nail clipping. I also make frequent trips to the vet for checkups and shots. While in uniform, I know that I am on duty to serve my master. Hoever, like anyone, I sometimes need a break. In my spare time, I like to play in the dirt, chase birds and squirrels, and take long afternoon naps. Like everybody else, I also like good human food. Unfortunately, I am on a special diet. However, from time-to-time, if I beg enough to my master, she will provide me some table scraps. I am kind and gentle and I love children of all ages.
I would like to thank the Brown Memorial Library for allowing me to visit. I hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I have. As a final thought, I would like to say that there are no bad dogs out there, only uneducated owners. I wish everyone the very best.
Best Regards,
Taffy Lynn
Taffy and her "Mom" and handler would like to thank Chris Koverman, K9 Performance, for her training guidance.
CHARLIE BEAR
Charlie came to us in the Spring of 2005 - he had been struck by a car suffering damage to his right eye. About a year later that eye had to be removed. Later, his original adopters noticed that he was having trouble seeing with his left eye and returned him thinking that he had "no quality of life". Charlie is sightless now, diagnosed with PRA. In August of 2007. Charlie Bear found his forever home, a family of 4, a boy 10 and a girl 13, Mom and Dad, and Rock, a 7 year old Black Lab rescue. He is a much loved family member who knows he has the best life ever.
Jessie
While in rescue, Jessie had eyelid surgery.
Jessie now enjoys playing with rope toys.
