The Miami Valley OKI Labrador Retriever Rescue and Referral is a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, operated by a  group of volunteers working hard to ensure that Labrador Retrievers in the Tri-State do not go to shelters and dog pounds where they may be destroyed.

All of our rescued dogs are kept in private foster homes of volunteers who take care of them as their own until they find their forever home.

Woody is resting after his date with the vet today. Poor thing was ridden with fleas and hookworms. The fleas are STILL falling off of him! He got neutered, microchiped, vaccinated, etc.. They treated him for hookworms and fleas and gave him a month treatment of the flea preventative.

They took x-rays on his leg and said the leg was badly broken, probably 4-5 months ago. He said it will take an orthopedic specialist re-breaking it and re-setting the bone. It looks awful and is going to cause more problems down the road - arthritis, etc. He already has two bone spurs. Last night he would play for awhile and then start holding it up as he hobbled along. It clearly bothers him. Woody will be seen by a specialist because not fixing it will cause more problems and he is already not running and playing like a healthy lab should.

He is an amazing animal. It makes us so angry to know of the neglect he suffered. Woody has comes a long way since yesterday trip to the vet. When we picked him up he was shaking and completely untrusting. Now....he is SO happy and knows he is safe. I have a picture where he is actually smiling in his sleep!
